Orgiva, The Alpujarras, GranadaOrgivaThe little town of Orgiva is only one kilometre away from the Cortijo and has all the facilities you might need during your stay, including banks, shops, cafes and restaurants. On Thursdays, the town comes to life with people coming in from all
the outlying villages for the local open-air market selling everything
from lemons to leather goods. The AlpujarrasThis area has some of the most beautiful scenery and reputedly the purest air in Europe. It is a temperate climate, cooled by gentle breezes, with mild, sunny winters and is ideal for walking, relaxing and visiting the local Moorish villages or the spa town of Lanjaron. In the Spring, the valley is lush and green with the fields ablaze with poppies and other local wild flowers, whilst there is still snow on the mountain tops.Visitors come for miles around to admire the scene. GranadaGranada is only an hour away; a stunning cathedral city set in a valley overlooked by the famous Alhambra palace and the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The old Moorish quarter of Granada is called the Albaicin and this has ancient cobbled streets flanked by Moorish tea-shops and gifts. Look into the courtyards of the old houses set on the side of the hill to see shady inner courtyards full of tropical plants. Here you will find the lookout for the Alhambra, with the Sierra Nevada Mountains providing a dramatic backdrop. It is here that we often share a meal in one of the outside restaurants after our visit to the Alhambra. The CoastDepending on the weather, we often have a trip to the coast to spend
half a day on the beach. There are many secluded beaches on the south
coast, accessible only by track, where the water is clear and very clean
and there is a local family-run restaurant where you can have lunch
and try the fish they have caught that morning.
