Yoga retreat or yoga holiday?

On a yoga retreat the week is focussed around your yoga, and can be pretty intense.

For people practising their yoga daily or training to be teachers this can be a great way of developing their practice. However, for people who practise yoga to help them through their busy weeks and lives, this may be too much for them when they also need a holiday.

Our aim is to give people who practice yoga once or twice a week, or who wish to discover yoga for the first time, confidence in their practice, and be helped to move forward with their yoga as well as giving them a great holiday. All with professional yoga teachers who have had many years experience and are good at teaching and helping people at all levels.

Duncan Hulin is a teacher of many years experience, and also trains students to become yoga teachers. He has been on many yoga retreats in England and India and in the last ten years has been very successful in running yoga holidays in France, Spain and India.

He is very skillful in adapting to individual needs in a group environment, and his holiday weeks are open to all, from beginners to the experienced.

Brenda Blades  teaches Iyengar yoga and qualified as an instructor in 1991. She has studied extensively on yoga retreats in London and India at the Iyengar Yoga Institute. Having taught yoga in numerous countries, Brenda is very good with both beginners and experienced students, and her classes are usually lively and fun as well as being productive.

Jenny Hulin studied yoga in India in the 1980īs and now is a qualified Iyengar teacher. She has also been on Yoga retreats with a variety of senior Iyengar teachers. She runs Spanish Yoga Holidays and teaches yoga classes in centres in Devon for students of all levels.

Jan Williamson has taught Hatha Yoga for 20 years and did her training with the British Wheel of Yoga. She has participated in yoga retreats in India and has organised yoga retreats in England. Her holidays are also for students of all levels and experience.

Trevor Taylor and Steve Pointer host our Tai chi weeks and between them create a week of learning different forms, partner work and a lot of fun! Trevor and Steve also run Tai chi retreats. Look at www.taichispain.com for more details of their other holidays.

Our yoga venue

The Cortijo de Santa Cruz is set in an olive grove 5 minutes from the small town of Orgiva in the Alpujarra, Andalucia, Southern Spain. Our yoga and tai chi holidays are ideal for people wishing to unwind and relax. The healing Mediterranean sunshine helps you leave your cares behind. Our holiday weeks combine 10 – 11 sessions of yoga or tai chi in the week together with walking and sightseeing in the stunning mountain scenery of the Alpujarra. The week also gives you a chance to enjoy Spanish culture and there is always plenty of time to relax by the pool. Complementary therapies such as aromatherapy, reflexology and neuro-muscular massage are also on offer.

For people not wanting to take part in everything we do in the week, and who just want to relax, all the activities are optional and you are welcome to take what you want from what is on offer.

Our weeks are holidays, not yoga retreats, though we feel you get the best of both when you holiday with us.
