Iyengar Yoga (a method of Hatha Yoga developed by B.K.S.Iyengar), is marked by dynamism and precision. It develops vitality, strength, endurance and flexibility whilst establishing correct body alignment and general wellbeing.
The self is explored through discovery and release of physical tension and psychological resistance. As practice continues ones ability to relax and concentrate improves. The concentration which such close observation requires draws your attention inward, quietening and integrating body and mind, creating mental alertness and inner harmony.

In the past he has taught teenagers with learning difficulties and has led practical stress management programmes in schools as part of staff development.

Jan Williamson - Hatha Yoga

The yoga practised during the week is hatha yoga which is physical postures (asanas) combined with relaxation and breathing techniques. The aim being to establish a level of awareness and integration within each individual. The focus with yoga is for each person to be able to connect with their physical, emotional and spiritual self, in whatever way is appropriate to them at the time.

Yoga foundations are based in ancient eastern philosophy but they are, nevertheless, very relevant in the modern western world. It can help to reduce the inevitable stresses and strains, whether physical or emotional. Yoga practice is extremely versatile; it can exist in solitude or in the social atmosphere of a class situation and can be modified to suit age, ability and need. It can also be done in a co-operative sense, combining the skills and support of another person, in the form of partners yoga. The nature of yoga can also match emotions and mood; sometimes it can be quiet and reflective, at other times it can be sociable and light-hearted.

Also during the holiday, some of the yoga sessions will include meditation exercises, a variety of styles will be used so that each person can find the way that they feel most comfortable with. In the same way that yoga can be for everyone, so can meditation, the essence being to simply establish a quiet, exclusive time.
